Matthew Murphy, MD

About

Matthew Murphy, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon. He evaluates and treats a full spectrum of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar conditions, ranging from degenerative disc disease and complex spinal deformities to traumatic spinal injuries, tumors, and infections.

With a firm commitment to conservative management, Dr. Murphy prioritizes physical therapy, medications, and targeted spinal injections before considering surgical options. Should surgery become necessary, he employs advanced techniques—including minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, intraoperative navigation, and robotic assistance—to optimize clinical outcomes and speed recovery. He partners closely with every patient to design a personalized treatment strategy aligned with their unique lifestyle, occupation, and personal goals.

An alumnus of Wake Forest University, Dr. Murphy graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry before earning his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency training at Beaumont Health in Royal Oak, Michigan, and further specialized by completing an Orthopedic Spine Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Outside of his clinical practice, Dr. Murphy enjoys spending quality time with family, playing several musical instruments, maintaining an active lifestyle through sports, and traveling.
