About

Dr. O’Holleran is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with dual fellowship training in advanced shoulder reconstruction and sports medicine. He specializes in shoulder procedures, with a special interest in arthroscopic reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, instability surgery, and complex open reconstructions, and sports medicine-related knee procedures including arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, cartilage repair and joint preservation.

Dr. O’Holleran aims to bring each patient back to function, enabling them to return to what they want to do in their lives. In his practice, his patients are treated holistically, whether with non-operative care or surgical treatment.

He currently serves as Medical Director for TB12 where he supports their treatment staff and helps develop medical safety protocols. Co-founded by Tom Brady, TB12 empowers athletes to prevent injury, improve longevity and raise their peak performance.

Dr. O’Holleran regularly instructs other surgeons on arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgical innovations at local, regional and national educational meetings. He frequently consults with medical companies to help them develop better and new implants.

After earning his bachelor’s degree at University of Nebraska where he graduated summa cum laude as a Chancellor’s Scholar, Dr. O’Holleran received his medical degree from Yale School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors as class president. At Yale, he was a winner of the Nicholas J. Giarman prize for outstanding graduating thesis and was awarded the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute National Institutes of Health Research Scholars Program to study molecular biology at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland.

He then studied orthopedics for five years in the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program where he was recognized as the William H. Thomas Outstanding Resident of his class and received the Outstanding Clinical Graduating Thesis award.

Following his residency, Dr. O’Holleran completed two fellowships. He was asked to stay on at the Massachusetts General Hospital to perform a shoulder reconstruction fellowship with Dr. Jon J.P. Warner, one of the premier shoulder surgeons in the world. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship in Manhattan at Hospital for Special Surgery, which is annually top-ranked for orthopedics. During his time in NYC, Dr. O’Holleran was an assistant team physician for the New York Giants, where he traveled with the team and cared for players on the sidelines during games, at training camp and in the operating room.

Dr. O’Holleran is part of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society (NESES). In 2007, he was one of three physicians nationally chosen by AOSSM for a sports medicine traveling fellowship. His program was in Southeast Asia, where he lectured, performed surgery and participated in talks and panel discussions. Following the fellowship’s completion, Dr. O’Holleran was inducted into the parent international organization, Magellan Orthopaedic Society.

Hailing from Nebraska, Dr. O’Holleran is the youngest of nine children. His father and four older brothers are also surgeons, all playing formative roles throughout his life as he chose medicine. He enjoys golfing, playing tennis, skiing and traveling with his wife and four children. His wife is a pediatric nurse practitioner who worked with pediatric bone marrow transplant patients at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund for a decade.
