The following are reviews from patients of Dr. Evans.
  • “I’ve consulted with some orthopedic surgeons about my knees since 2005. Now I have been bone on bone for a few years but have saved myself from the worst symptoms thru conditioning. Thus, average indications, like pain, do not apply. Dr. Evans was able to parse out the physical details and view them in light of my active lifestyle, outdoor pursuits, and high energy level. He pointed out how my posture had been impacted by knee bone deterioration, which had not been explained previously. Healthy attitude underlies yoga, which I teach and practice daily.”

  • “Always on time and greeted with a smile. He’s made a significant change in my life. No more knee pain that I endured for many years. Every doctor that I’ve seen at SMN has been incredible. Couldn’t ask for anything more. If there were more than five stars, he would receive them from me.”

  • “Had a total knee replacement this morning by Dr. Evans and have had a great experience starting with pre-op right through to post-op. The floor nurses are terrific also as were the PT folks. I have never been to Beverly Hospital before but this has been a very pleasant experience. There is no one better than Dr. Evans! I love him!!”

  • “I had such a bad left knee, I spent my 35th anniversary at Disney World in an electric scooter because I couldn't walk. I had a new procedure done in the late fall. I was able to walk without pain within a few days after the procedure. I now walk my dog four miles a day. I also am able to do 8-10 miles on the exercise bike. I can’t begin to express how the procedure improved the quality of my life. The improvement has been almost miraculous. -- Edward D.”

  • “I have had knee problems/surgeries since I was 15 thus as I got older, I experienced chronic knee pain, swelling, and limited range of motion. They say you will know when the time is right for a replacement. I met Dr. Evans and his P.A. Matt and knew immediately the time had come and I was in the best capable hands. I had the joint replaced. I received outstanding care and compassion with exceptional bedside manner. -- Mary F.”

  • “My experience started several years ago with the wonderful team at Sports Medicine North. It begins with the receptionists at the front desk who are cordial and make you feel less apprehensive, the X-ray tech who informs you all the way when you go to the X-ray room for specialty pictures, and the physician assistants who puts you at ease with their pertinent questions to assist in getting to your injury and discomfort problems. The top of this team is my surgeon, Ira Evans, M.D. Dr. Evans performed surgery first at Union Hospital on my right shoulder. It is 100% perfect. I now can swing a tennis racquet, golf club, bowl, and travel without any discomfort. The most important part of that surgery was giving back hugs to my husband and grandchildren when I could not until after that surgery. My right knee was causing problems and I had a meniscus tear repair with Dr. Evans and one of his assistants Matt in attendance. After a few years I had a successful total right knee completed about four years ago. These people all contributed to me feeling so much better. Recently I had a meniscus repair on my left knee. The practice at Sports Medicine North is tops in all fields. The new surgery center in Peabody is top notch with great nurses and attendants. I have recommended my aunt who had surgery on her foot with Dr. Woods and sent over several other friends to this practice. Dr. Ira Evans takes interest in his patients with a smile, guidance in his patients care, follow up, and is a  genuine wonderful medical professional with a heart and expertise. -- Carol I.”

  • “I fell off a roof and crushed my left heel (Calcaneous) and was treated at Mass General Hospital who completed a closed reduction. I don't know that I have ever been in so much pain at any other time in my life. Supposedly, this is the most pain bone in the body to break. I later got a fracture blister which needed to be debriefed. That's when I went to Sports Medicine North to see Dr. Evans.  He treated me for several years and was afraid I was going to end up having my foot amputated.  He sent me for a Radiology testing with iodine and discovered I had Ostemylitis in the bone of my foot.  He then coordinated my care for me at MGH to have a microvascular surgeon and a plastic surgeon consultation to save my foot. I underwent a 20 hour procedure, had a 38 day stay in the hospital where they did in fact, save my foot and I owe it all to Dr. Evans who was so diligent in my care, he researched my symptoms and surgeries and spent many hours on the phone with his colleagues to determine the next steps.  He came to visit me in the hospital the day after surgery to make sure I was continuing to get the best care.  I can never thank Dr. Evans for all he did for me and I continue to go to him for ANY orthopedic issue.  I have referred everyone I know who needed an orthopedic specialist to Sports Medicine North as they have so many specialty physicians who work on specific parts of the body so they become known for their areas of expertise. I will forever be grateful and in support of Dr. Evans and all the doctors who work in this practice. Thank you. -- Debra M.”

  • “I had back pain and numbness in my left leg for years. My primary care physician suggested pain relievers. I saw two different chiropractors and an acupuncturist with no lasting relief.  Dr. Shore assured me he could resolve my issues and did!  I underwent surgery five years ago and have had no pain since. I was walking the next day. I have also seen Dr. Uroskie and Dr. Evans. They are also top-notch physicians.  I highly recommend Sports Medicine North to anyone that needs orthopedic attention. -- Ken G.”

  • “I was first introduced to Sports Medicine North through my primary care physician, Dr. Maury McGough because of ongoing back pain.Once introduced to Sports Medicine North, and not having had a checkup in the orthopedic area for a very long time, things starting coming to the surface. I developed bursitis in both my shoulders and a frozen shoulder in one which was repaired surgically, elbow tendonitis resulting in surgery, and carpal tunnel surgery in my right hand. Lastly, Dr. Ira Evans, in a great attempt to save my knees did two arthroscopic surgeries in each knee because of osteoarthritis. These surgeries, performed all at separate times did result in some relief for a limited time, however my knees did get worse. In October 2010, Dr Ira Evans performed a total left side knee replacement, which took a very long time to heal and recover from. I went to Ledgewood Skilled nursing facility, which was an excellent facility and provided all my needs. Just recently, on February 27, 2013, Dr. Ira Evans performed a right side total knee replacement, which went wonderful. This knee replacement and the last one were totally opposite in their healing time and pain level. Dr. Evans is by the far the best orthopedic surgeon I have ever had and he is good, knowing exactly what needs to be done and especially being great at his craft and having a great bedside manner. I wouldn't go anywhere else for my orthopedic needs, except Sports Medicine North. -- Ami S.”

  • “All that comes to know him as a person and as a skilled and concerned surgeon respects Dr. Evans. I work with Dr. Evans on a routine basis, and last year I had a knee scope for meniscus tear. He is truly a nice man and an excellent surgeon. There is no need to go into Boston for orthopedic care when you have the BEST of the Best with Dr. Evans. -- Diane M.”

  • “On March 15, 2013 I had surgery for a complete left knee replacement. I have nothing but high praise for the surgery team, nurses, aids, and PT that took care of me during and following surgery at Beverly Hospital. I have experienced a remarkable recovery. Two weeks after the surgery I was able to go out for dinner with friends using only one crutch. I transitioned to a cane shortly after and by my six week follow up was walking without either. I can now straighten my knee completely and have 125 degree flexibility that allows me to both climb and go down stairs with no problem. I no longer wake up at night with sever pain in my right leg due to my inability to straighten my left knee as I walked. I am very happy with my new knee and am certainly glad I had the surgery. -- Karen M.”
