  • “I have now had both shoulders repaired by Dr. Fehnel. Both were most positive experiences from first meetings to follow-ups. From his coordinator Karin to the PA staff I knew I was in good hands. And Dr. Fehnel’s easy-going style made my whole experience a lot less scary than it could have been. Kudos to all!”

  • “I had rotator cuff surgery last August and am recovering very well. The surgery went smoothly and I felt well prepared for the recovery process. Dr. Fehnel explained everything clearly and post-surgery, he went over what was done and what I should anticipate during therapy. I would certainly recommend Dr. Fehnel to anyone needing this particular surgery.”

  • “During my work as a lifeguard at the Y, I had an unusual experience dealing with a twisted/jammed lane line. The line won the argument as I tugged, and my shoulder was quite damaged, beyond a simple rotator cuff repair. After a waiting period to let it settle down, Dr. Fehnel repaired everything and sent me on the road to recovery via therapy. After about 7 months of therapy and body conditioning, I was able to resume swimming at my prior level or better and will soon be ready to test for lifeguard certification.”

  • “I have had two appointments with Dr. Fehnel and have found him to be informative, personable, and knowledgeable about my rotator cuff injury. His assistant was also knowledgeable and personable. I feel comfortable with the doctor's advice and do not feel pressured by him. Several years ago, I broke my wrist and was treated by Dr. Uroskie. He performed a wrist reduction, which has healed excellently. Dr. Uroskie, in my opinion, is an excellent orthopedic surgeon.”

  • “I had torn my rotator cuff on my right shoulder at the age of 25. I went from having a rocket from centerfield to home to having to give up softball completely and suffering great pain when lifting and exercising. I suffered with the pain for about 20 years. One day while mountain biking with my son I fell and landed on the shoulder severing the rotator cuff completely. The surgery took longer than normal. I even had to make an unexpected overnight stay at the hospital due to the extra anesthesia. Dr. Fehnel said that the old part of the tear was like stitching up and old baseball glove.” My recovery was supposed to take about six to eight months. After only five months upon completing my physical therapy, I was cleared to play golf that spring. It has been about five years and it has been awesome. Throwing baseballs and footballs with my sons, golfing, exercising, and lifting at work with little to no pain has made my life a lot more fun. I have told this story to many friends and told them how grateful I am for what Dr. Fehnel did for me. This summer my son Jack fractured his shoulder playing a scrimmage football game. I made sure my wife Lindsey brought him to Sports Medicine North. I was very happy when I learned that Dr. Fehnel would be his doctor as well. Jack was back on the field the last half of the season.”

  • “I had Dr. Fehnel for my left shoulder surgery. Today, it feels great. Now I am having pain with my right shoulder. After my MRI, Dr. Fehnel told me that I was a candidate for a shoulder replacement. I was given a cortisone shot and it is working for now. I will be waiting until the pain is severe enough to have the shoulder replacement. I really have had a good experience with Dr Fehnel.”

  • “It has not mattered which doctor I have seen at Sports Medicine North. They have all been extremely kind, and more important, at the top of their game. I have been seeing them since the late 80's, and have never had anything but a outstanding outcome. If you have any orthopedic problems, this is the team you need to bring you back as far as is possible! The most important thing is that they are kind, compassionate, and extremely gifted surgeons. I would recommend them to anyone with an orthopedic issue. You can't do better than Sport's Medicine North!”

  • “After twisting my leg in a fall, Dr. Fehnel saw me the day after I called, ordered an X-ray and immediately assured me that there was nothing broken. He examined my leg, told me how to treat the swelling and suggested if it didn't continue to improve to come back and see him. He is a kind and compassionate doctor who listens patiently, never rushes me. I am 83 years old.”

  • “Visited with Dr. Fehnel briefly in Newburyport. He ordered an MRI which I received in Peabody and subsequently met with Dr. Fehnel for a results summary. The pain continued from the rotator cuff injury whereupon I followed his instructions to get a cortisone shot. It worked and the pain subsided. The whole experience was quick and hassle free . The entire process was quick and successful.”

  • “Please let me relate my husband's experience with reversed total shoulder replacement surgery performed by Dr. David Fennel and his team at Beverly Hospital.  Prior to the operation date, John and I arrived at the hospital for pre-admission testing and information gathering. The desk attendant was welcoming; the in-take nurse put John at immediate ease, helping to instill calm and confidence for the upcoming procedure. The actual surgery was capably and skillfully performed by Dr. David Fehnel and his exemplary team. The anesthesiologist even displayed a bit of humor, helping to lighten the seriousness of the operation. The various shift nurses and supplemental employees at the Johnson Wing were great during the patients’ overnight stay. When we were asked at the hospital who had performed John's shoulder operation by various personnel, it was apparent to my husband and me that Dr. Fehnel is a very much admired member of the special team by the medical staff.  With the requisite instructions and prescriptions, John came home to Rockport for recovery. Since then, his twice-weekly therapy sessions at Addison Gilbert Hospital have gone very well. At John's post-operative visit, Dr. Fehnel and his physician assistant were both encouraging and motivating, melding professionalism with friendliness. My husband and I are both grateful to have such an excellent medical resource as Beverly Hospital and its proficient staff available to us. We've been most pleased to share our positive experience with our family and friends! – Betty E.”

While he was always positive about my prognosis, he was always open and honest about what the outcome might be. Fortunately, for me, his skill and thorough work provided me with nearly 100℅ recovery. And I am very confident in my ability to continue to improve toward that goal.”
